Bangkok: Thailand is seeking a special Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) meeting as the Middle East conflict continues to unfold. Thai Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow has proposed that a special ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting be convened at "the earliest opportunity" by the current ASEAN chair, Philippine Foreign Secretary Maria Theresa Lazaro. The meeting aims to address the escalating situation and its potential impact on regional energy security and to consider safeguard measures.

According to Anadolu Agency, Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has voiced concerns that a prolonged conflict could lead to increased global energy prices, disrupted supply chains, and adverse effects on Thailand's economic growth and inflation outlook.

Regional tensions have intensified following a large-scale attack by the US and Israel on Iran on February 28. The attack resulted in more than 1,200 deaths, including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, over 150 schoolgirls, and senior military officials. Iran has responded with widespread barrages targeting US bases, diplomatic facilities, military personnel across the region, and multiple Israeli cities. At least seven US service members have been reported killed.
