Beirut: Lebanese President Joseph Aoun emphasized on Monday that Israeli military actions will not succeed in their objectives, declaring Lebanon's preparedness to restart negotiations to prevent further Israeli escalation. "I informed the major powers and the United Nations of Lebanon's full readiness to resume negotiations and discuss the necessary security measures to stop Israel's dangerous escalation," Aoun stated during a meeting with the ambassadors of Denmark, Sweden, and Norway, as cited by the state news agency NNA.

According to Anadolu Agency, Aoun reiterated Lebanon's firm stance, referring to a Cabinet decision made last week. This decision underlines Lebanon's unwavering commitment to the ceasefire agreement established in November 2024, aimed at maintaining peace and stability. In return, Lebanon expects Israel to cease its military actions across Lebanese territory.

Despite the existence of a ceasefire agreement with Hezbollah since November 2024, Israel has persisted with almost daily violations that have resulted in numerous casualties. Recent Israeli airstrikes have led to the deaths of over 400 individuals and have caused the displacement of thousands across Lebanon amid ongoing cross-border skirmishes with Hezbollah.

The recent surge in violence began after Israel and the United States jointly attacked Iran, an assault that resulted in over 1,200 fatalities, including the death of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. In retaliation, Tehran launched drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf countries housing US military assets.
