Tel aviv: The Israeli army has reportedly attacked five Iranian naval vessels in the Caspian Sea, as per reports from Israeli media on Wednesday evening. This incident marks a significant escalation in the ongoing tensions between Israel and Iran.

According to Anadolu Agency, the Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper stated that this attack is the first of its kind by Israel against Iranian naval targets in the Caspian Sea. Additionally, the public broadcaster KAN confirmed the occurrence of the attack but did not provide any further details.

There have been no immediate official comments from either Israeli or Iranian authorities regarding the report. The attack occurs amidst heightened tensions following a recent US-Israeli airstrike on gas storage tanks at Iran's South Pars field, which halted production at two refineries with a considerable capacity of about 100 million cubic meters per day.

The regional conflict has escalated since Israel and the US initiated a joint offensive against Iran on February 28, which has resulted in approximately 1,300 casualties, including the death of then-Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. In response, Iran has conducted drone and missile strikes targeting various locations in Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf countries that host US military assets, leading to casualties, damage to infrastructure, and disruptions in global markets and aviation.
