Amman: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met Jordan’s King Abdullah II to discuss a potential partnership in the security sector and the situation in the Middle East during his visit to the capital Amman. Zelenskyy emphasized Ukraine’s willingness to collaborate on defense strategies against drone and missile threats.

According to Anadolu Agency, Zelenskyy highlighted on the US social media platform X that a unified system is essential for comprehensive protection of citizens and critical infrastructure. He noted Ukraine’s experience in defending against constant Russian attacks, including those using Iranian drones, over the past five years. The Ukrainian president stressed the importance of mutual support in strengthening defenses.

Zelenskyy also mentioned that since the beginning of the US/Israel-Iran conflict in the Middle East, numerous regional countries have requested assistance from Ukraine in countering Iranian drones. The conflict, which began with an offensive by Israel and the US against Iran on February 28, has resulted in over 1,340 deaths, including the then-Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.

Iran has responded with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf countries with US military assets, leading to casualties, infrastructure damage, and disruptions in global markets and aviation.

Zelenskyy’s recent tour of the Gulf region included visits to Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates. In Qatar, Ukraine entered into a long-term defense agreement, while discussions on defense cooperation took place in the UAE with President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. In Saudi Arabia, Zelenskyy met Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in Jeddah, resulting in a defense cooperation agreement.
