Algiers: Former Algerian President Liamine Zeroual has died at the age of 85, the Algerian presidency announced on Sunday. A statement from the presidency indicated that Zeroual had been battling illness for some time and was receiving treatment at the Mohamed Seghir Nekkache Military Hospital. He passed away at the hospital.
According to Anadolu Agency, Zeroual served as the president of Algeria from 1994 to 1999. His tenure was marked by efforts to stabilize the country during a period of significant internal conflict.
