Khuzestan: At least five individuals lost their lives and 170 others sustained injuries in a US-Israeli attack on petrochemical facilities in southwestern Iran, as reported by state media.

According to Anadolu Agency, the IRNA news agency cited a local official in Khuzestan province, stating that the strike targeted several companies within the Mahshahr Special Economic Zone for petrochemicals. The official confirmed that the injured received medical treatment, with most patients discharged following outpatient care.

Earlier reports from Iran's semi-official Fars news agency indicated that at least five people were injured in the US-Israeli strikes on Iran's Mahshahr and Bandar Imam special petrochemical zones. The strikes also targeted the Fajr, Rejal, and Amir-Kabir petrochemical facilities in Khuzestan province, as stated by a provincial deputy governor for security. While there was damage to parts of the Bandar Imam petrochemical site, no damage was reported at the Amir-Kabir facility.

The incident is part of escalating regional tensions following a joint offensive by the US and Israel on Iran on February 28, resulting in over 1,340 casualties, including the death of then-Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. Iran has responded with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, as well as Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf countries hosting US military assets.
