Ankara: Trkiye on Saturday marked the 77th anniversary of NATO and emphasized its key role in the alliance. 'Today we celebrate the 77th anniversary of NATO, the primary platform for Euro-Atlantic security, which we have been a member of since 1952,' the Turkish Foreign Ministry said in a statement. 'Since the outset, Trkiye continues to uphold its leading role in the Alliance with the same determination and 360-degree security approach,' the statement added.
According to Anadolu Agency, the statement highlighted Trkiye's contributions as a key security provider with a strong army, advanced military capabilities, and a dynamic defense industry. It also mentioned that Trkiye makes concrete and comprehensive contributions to Euro-Atlantic security. Additionally, Trkiye's commitment to NATO was underscored by its plans to host the NATO Summit in Ankara on 7-8 July 2026.
Separately, the Turkish Defense Ministry expressed its sentiments on the Turkish social media platform NSosyal, wishing NATO a happy 77th anniversary. The ministry stated, 'Our country continues to fulfill all the duties and missions it has undertaken, and will remain an active and constructive member of NATO.'
Next year, Trkiye is set to mark its 75th year as part of the NATO alliance, further solidifying its longstanding relationship with the organization.
