Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot Leaders Engage in Buffer Zone Talks

Nicosia: Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) President Tufan Erhurman and Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Hristodulidis convened on Monday in the United Nations-controlled buffer zone in Cyprus. This meeting, hosted by the UN's top representative on the island, aimed to advance dialogue between the two communities.

According to Anadolu Agency, the closed-door meeting was held at the residence of UN Secretary-General's Special Representative in Cyprus, Khassim Diagne. The discussions, which lasted approximately 90 minutes, took place in what was described as a 'positive atmosphere' by a UN statement. The leaders engaged in a 'fruitful discussion,' sharing perspectives on significant issues and strategizing the next steps in the ongoing Cyprus process.

The two leaders expressed appreciation for the UN Secretary-General's continued dedication to resolving the Cyprus issue and confirmed their willingness to support his initiatives. The meeting concluded with an agreement to meet again by the end of April, with the intention of making more specific announcements regarding future steps.

Despite the progress made during the meeting, no joint press statement was issued by Erhurman and Hristodulidis.
