Madrid: Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez urged the European Union on Wednesday to suspend its 1995 Association Agreement with Israel, a treaty that governs trade and political cooperation, in response to Israel's recent strikes on Lebanon.

According to Anadolu Agency, Sanchez expressed his concerns through a post on the US social media platform X, highlighting what he described as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's most severe attack on Lebanon since the offensive began. Sanchez criticized Tel Aviv's actions, labeling them as a blatant disregard for life and international law, which he found "intolerable."

Sanchez called for immediate action, stating that the European Union must put a hold on its Association Agreement with Israel. He emphasized that Lebanon should be included in the cease-fire negotiations, referencing the truce reached late Tuesday between the US and Iran. He urged the international community to condemn the recent breach of international law.

Furthermore, the Spanish Prime Minister highlighted the importance of accountability, insisting that there should be no impunity for these acts, which he described as criminal. The Lebanese health minister reported that at least 89 people were killed and 722 others injured in the Israeli attacks, although these figures are still considered preliminary.
