France Declares No Arms Sales to Israel Amidst Heightened Export Scrutiny

Paris: The French prime minister announced on Thursday that France is committed to not selling weapons to Israel, emphasizing that all French deliveries are either defensive in nature or intended for re-export. Sebastien Lecornu made these remarks on the US social media platform X, highlighting the defensive focus of French exports, particularly with components related to the Iron Dome, and other materials aimed at third-country re-export.

According to Anadolu Agency, Lecornu underscored France’s commitment to civilian protection and violence reduction on a global scale. ‘We do not compromise on truth, the protection of civilians, or the demand for peace. We have, ourselves, a certain idea of France,’ Lecornu stated, reinforcing the nation’s stance on international peace and security. He also promised transparency by agreeing to provide the presidents of the Defense Committees with a classified summary of licenses granted in 2025.

A report from the French newspaper Le Monde, sourced from Urgence Palestine and the Palestinian Youth Movement, highlighted over 525 shipments of French military equipment to Israel from October 2023 to March 2026. The French government has clarified that these shipments are strictly defensive or meant for re-export purposes.

The report further detailed that most of these deliveries were transported by El Al airline from Paris’ Roissy-Charles-de-Gaulle airport. Among the companies involved in these shipments are Thales, Safran, Aubert and Duval, and Hutchinson. Thales, in particular, stated to Le Monde, ‘Since October 7, 2023, Thales has exported no weapons or lethal systems to the Israeli armed forces, either directly or via third-party manufacturers. Thales strictly complies with French and international export regulations as well as applicable international sanctions.’
