Pakistan, Trkiye, and Egypt Engaged in Mideast Mediation Efforts, Says D-8 Chief

Islamabad: D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation Secretary-General Ambassador Sohail Mahmood has revealed that member countries including Pakistan, Trkiye, and Egypt are actively participating in mediation efforts to address the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. The objective is to prevent further escalation in the Iran war, support a ceasefire, and encourage a lasting diplomatic resolution.

According to Anadolu Agency, Mahmood conveyed in written remarks that all parties involved have a duty and historic responsibility in the upcoming ceasefire talks between the US and Iran, set to take place in Pakistan. He emphasized that weeks of behind-the-scenes diplomacy have paved the way for a crucial opportunity to avoid further conflict.

Mahmood stressed the importance of the talks in Islamabad, highlighting that they must be productive and lead to a stable peace agreement. He cautioned that the risks remain high, particularly concerning global energy markets and economies reliant on a steady supply of oil from the Gulf region.

Despite the challenges, Mahmood noted the significant opportunity for a breakthrough in the negotiations. He expressed hope that all parties involved would act with responsibility and seriousness to ensure the success of the talks.
