Berlin: A new survey revealed on Wednesday that 79% of Germans expressed dissatisfaction with the government's performance, which comprises the Christian Democratic Union (CDU), its Bavarian counterpart, the Christian Social Union (CSU), and the center-left Social Democratic Party (SPD).
According to Anadolu Agency, YouGov data indicated that this dissatisfaction level was previously at 55% in the first opinion poll conducted in June 2025. The changing sentiment is notably evident among voters of Chancellor Friedrich Merz's CDU party. In March, 48% of them were satisfied with the government's performance, but this figure plummeted to 34% by April.
The far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party has emerged as the strongest political force in the country. The latest poll shows the AfD with 27% support, marking an increase of one percentage point from the previous month. Conversely, the ruling coalition parties have experienced significant losses. The CDU/CSU's support has fallen by three percentage points to 23%, the lowest recorded in the YouGov poll since December 2021.
The Social Democratic Party (SPD) also witnessed a decline, with its support standing at 13%, down by one percentage point. Meanwhile, the opposition Greens and The Left have each gained one percentage point, achieving 14% and 10% support, respectively.
