Dallas: Basketball star Kyrie Irving has changed his profile picture on Instagram to an image of a Palestinian child holding a book in a war zone. The Dallas Mavericks player, who has more than 20 million followers on the social media platform, now displays an image of a child holding a book in front of barbed wire and Israeli soldiers, appearing to be blocked from going to school.

According to Anadolu Agency, the nine-time NBA All-Star has long used his online presence to express support for Palestinians. Last summer, he changed his profile picture to an image of Yaqeen Hammad, a social media influencer and activist who was killed in an Israeli airstrike in May 2025. He has also shared a photo of Hind Rajab, a five-year-old girl who was killed by Israeli forces.

Irving has demonstrated his support for Palestinians through his clothing as well, including wearing a keffiyeh at a press conference and a shirt during an NBA game to honor Palestinian journalists. According to Gaza's Health Ministry, 777 Palestinians have been killed since the ceasefire began in October, bringing the total death toll since October 2023 to more than 72,000.
