Tehran: The Strait of Hormuz will not revert to pre-war conditions, a senior Iranian lawmaker stated on Sunday as Iranian restrictions on shipping in the strategic waterway continue alongside a US blockade on Iranian ports.
According to Anadolu Agency, Ali Nikzad, the second deputy speaker of the Iranian parliament, emphasized that the decision to maintain control over the Strait of Hormuz comes from the Leader of the Islamic Revolution. Nikzad questioned the authority of US President Donald Trump, who previously claimed that Iran's nuclear capabilities had been destroyed following bombings on Fordo and Natanz.
The conflict, initiated by the US and Israel against Iran on February 28, has seen Tehran maintain control over the Strait of Hormuz. This was followed by an American naval blockade on April 13, which has significantly impacted global energy supplies, particularly in Asia.
Recent talks between Washington and Tehran in Islamabad, Pakistan, failed to yield an agreement to end the conflict. These discussions followed a two-week ceasefire brokered by Pakistan on April 8, which was subsequently extended by President Trump.
As efforts for another round of negotiations continue, key issues such as the control of the Strait of Hormuz, the US blockade of Iranian ports, and Iran's enriched uranium remain significant obstacles in reaching a resolution.
