Beirut: Lebanese group Hezbollah announced on Sunday that it carried out three attacks on Israeli army forces in southern Lebanon.
According to Anadolu Agency, the group stated that these attacks were executed 'in defense of Lebanon and its people' and as a response to Israeli violations of a ceasefire agreement and attacks on towns in the southern region of the country. Hezbollah's fighters reportedly targeted a newly established Israeli artillery position in the town of Bayyada using a swarm of drones. Additionally, the group claimed responsibility for two drone attacks on a gathering of Israeli soldiers and a military force in the town of Taybeh. While Hezbollah mentioned casualties among Israeli forces, no further details were provided.
The tension in the region has escalated significantly since March 2, following a cross-border attack by Hezbollah, which prompted Israel to launch airstrikes and a ground offensive in southern Lebanon. The situation has been tense since the US and Israel commenced an air offensive on Iran on February 28. Lebanese authorities have reported that Israeli attacks since March 2 have resulted in nearly 2,500 fatalities and displaced over 1 million people.
A truce was initially announced for ten days starting April 16 but was frequently violated by Israeli forces. On Thursday, US President Donald Trump stated that Israel and Lebanon had agreed to extend their ceasefire by three weeks after a second round of high-level negotiations took place at the White House.
