Ankara: Poland is ready to serve as a 'northern gateway' for US energy supplies to Central and Eastern Europe, President Karol Nawrocki said. Speaking at the Three Seas Initiative summit in Croatia on Tuesday, Nawrocki stated Poland's ambition to strengthen regional energy independence while deepening transatlantic ties.
According to Anadolu Agency, Nawrocki emphasized that the US is a crucial partner for Central Europe, expressing Poland's readiness to facilitate the flow of American gas into neighboring markets. He noted US Energy Secretary Chris Wright's participation in the summit as a sign of strong bilateral cooperation. Nawrocki also addressed concerns about Washington's commitment to European security, affirming the US's position as Poland's most important ally.
His remarks were made against the backdrop of a domestic debate in Poland, sparked by Prime Minister Donald Tusk's recent comments questioning the US's loyalty to NATO's collective defense obligations amid potential threats from Russia. Nawrocki indirectly responded to these concerns by asserting that the US remains the cornerstone of security on NATO's eastern flank and emphasized the need for reinforced American presence.
Additionally, Nawrocki highlighted the significance of the Three Seas Initiative for bolstering regional economic resilience. He suggested that discussions should begin on establishing a dedicated investment bank for the bloc. The initiative, launched in 2015, focuses on enhancing connectivity, energy security, and economic cooperation across Central and Eastern Europe.
