Washington: US President Donald Trump on Wednesday urged Iran to 'get smart soon' over a nuclear deal, declaring: 'No more Mr. nice guy!'
According to Anadolu Agency, Trump expressed his frustration with Iran on his Truth Social platform, stating, 'Iran can't get their act together. They don't know how to sign a nonnuclear deal. They better get smart soon.' The post featured an image of the US president in a black suit and sunglasses, holding a firearm, with dramatic explosions in an Iranian landscape as the backdrop.
The tensions between the US and Iran escalated when the US and Israel launched a joint offensive against Iran on February 28. In response, Tehran carried out strikes targeting what it identified as US interests throughout the region, particularly in Gulf countries.
A ceasefire was brokered on April 8, facilitated by Pakistani mediation, and subsequent talks took place in Islamabad on April 11-12. However, these negotiations concluded without reaching an agreement. Trump later mentioned that the truce had been extended at Pakistan's request, pending a proposal from Tehran.
Despite the temporary truce, Trump indicated on Monday that he was unlikely to accept Iran's latest proposal aimed at ending the conflict. Tehran's proposal included reopening the Strait of Hormuz while deferring discussions about its nuclear program, leaving unresolved questions for future negotiations.
