Higher Energy Prices Push Up Inflation in Germany

Berlin: The annual inflation rate in Germany reached 2.9% last month, rising from 2.7% in March, as reported by official figures from the federal statistical authority Destatis on Tuesday. This marks the second consecutive month of increased inflation, primarily driven by higher energy prices linked to the conflict in Iran.

According to Anadolu Agency, Ruth Brand, president of Destatis, highlighted that consumers are feeling the ongoing price pressure, especially concerning motor fuels. The data indicated that energy product prices were 10.1% higher in April 2026 compared to April 2025, following a 7.2% increase in March.

The report further detailed that the price of motor fuels surged by 26.2% on a yearly basis in April, while heating oil prices escalated by 55.1% in Germany. On a monthly scale, consumer prices saw an increase of 0.6% in April.
