Canberra: Australia has announced a new round of financial sanctions and travel bans targeting several Iranian individuals and entities. This move comes as part of an accusation against Iran for alleged involvement in human rights violations and other activities.

According to Anadolu Agency, Foreign Minister Penny Wong detailed that the sanctions focus on seven individuals and four entities connected to Iran’s security and financial networks. Wong highlighted past incidents, stating that in January, the Iranian regime allegedly massacred thousands of its own citizens and conducted mass arrests of peaceful protesters. Reports indicate that detainees were tortured, forced into confessions, and isolated from their loved ones, with internet access restricted to prevent global awareness of these events.

The Australian government has identified those sanctioned as being involved in enforcing Iran’s mandatory hijab policies, monitoring activists and political opponents, and detaining foreign nationals. The sanctions also aim at financial networks purportedly supporting armed groups and Iran’s missile activities.

This announcement is part of a broader, coordinated international effort, with the UK also imposing additional sanctions. Canberra noted that the Albanese government has now sanctioned over 230 Iranian-linked individuals and entities, including more than 100 associated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. As of now, Iran has not responded to the latest accusations and sanctions.
