Russia Accuses Ukraine of Violating Ceasefire, Resulting in 25 Deaths

Moscow: Russia on Friday accused Ukraine of continuing attacks during a four-day ceasefire period, resulting in 25 deaths and 209 injuries. The ceasefire, announced by Moscow and reportedly extended by US President Donald Trump, was intended to mark the 81st anniversary of the Soviet victory in World War II from May 8 to 11.

According to Anadolu Agency, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova stated that Ukraine failed to adhere to the ceasefire declared by Russian President Vladimir Putin. She highlighted that Trump had announced an agreement between Moscow and Kyiv for a truce during May 9-11 and a prisoner exchange, which was seen as a potential step toward ending the ongoing conflict.

Russia claimed that after the ceasefire period concluded, its forces resumed military operations in Ukraine. Zakharova alleged that during the ceasefire, Ukraine was responsible for the deaths and injuries of numerous individuals in Russia.

The spokesperson, citing Russia's Defense Ministry, reported that Kyiv violated the ceasefire a total of 30,383 times over the four-day period. She emphasized that the Russian Armed Forces complied with the ceasefire and only engaged in retaliatory actions when necessary.

Prior to the ceasefire, Russia had announced a unilateral halt to military operations for May 8-9 and warned of significant missile responses if Victory Day events were disrupted. Ukraine had announced its intention to observe a ceasefire starting at midnight on May 6. As of now, Ukraine has not issued a response to the accusations made by Russia.
