Paris: France's aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle is poised to arrive near the Strait of Hormuz, as confirmed by France's minister delegate for the armed forces, amid ongoing tensions in the Gulf region.

According to Anadolu Agency, the French aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle is progressing into the Arabian Sea and is already within the area, as stated by Alice Rufo to the French news broadcaster BFMTV. Rufo emphasized that the carrier is moving forward into the Arabian Sea and is already positioned in the vicinity.

The regional tensions have escalated following a series of strikes initiated by the US and Israel against Iran on February 28, which led to retaliatory actions from Tehran targeting Israel and US allies in the Gulf. These developments also resulted in the temporary closure of the Strait of Hormuz.

A ceasefire was brokered on April 8 through mediation efforts by Pakistan, although talks held in Islamabad failed to secure a lasting resolution. Subsequently, US President Donald Trump extended the truce without specifying an end date. Additionally, since April 13, the US has imposed a naval blockade aimed at Iranian maritime activities within the strait.
