Costa navarino: The Hormuz Strait should be reopened without any tolls or restrictions, stated Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni on Saturday. Meloni emphasized the importance of this action during her speech at the Europe-Gulf Forum held in Greece's southern resort of Costa Navarino.
According to Anadolu Agency, Meloni articulated Italy's stance that a sustainable resolution to the ongoing crisis in the strait must be grounded in key principles. She highlighted the necessity for the reopening of the Hormuz Strait without imposing tolls or discriminatory restrictions, citing that the prosperity of not only the Mediterranean and the Gulf but also the entire world hinges on the freedom of navigation.
In her speech, Meloni further committed Italy's readiness to contribute to the safety of navigation, drawing on experiences from the European Union's Aspides and Atalanta missions in the Red Sea and the Indian Ocean. She also underscored the importance of preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons to mitigate threats to its neighbors.
