Erdogan and Trump Engage in Talks on Trkiye-US Relations and Regional Conflicts

Ankara: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan held a call with US President Donald Trump, during which the two leaders discussed bilateral relations as well as regional and global developments.

According to Anadolu Agency, the Turkish Communications Directorate indicated that Erdogan remarked on the decision to extend a ceasefire with Iran, describing it as 'a positive development'. Erdogan expressed confidence that 'a reasonable solution to disputed issues is possible' and reiterated Trkiye's commitment to supporting constructive initiatives for conflict resolution.

Erdogan emphasized the importance of establishing lasting stability in Syria, stating it would be 'an important gain for the entire region'. He affirmed that Trkiye's support for Syria would continue without interruption and highlighted the necessity of preventing further deterioration of the situation in Lebanon.

The Turkish president also noted that preparations for an upcoming NATO Summit in Ankara are in progress, with maximum efforts being made to ensure its success. Erdogan conveyed his condolences to Trump for a recent attack on a mosque in California and reiterated Trkiye's opposition to hate crimes against any religious group.

Trump, speaking to reporters in Maryland, described the call as "very good" and praised his personal relationship with Erdogan. "Isn't it nice that I have relationships with some very tough people? He's a tough guy, and I have a relationship with him that nobody else does. He's actually done a good job," Trump said at Joint Base Andrews after returning from an event in Connecticut.

Trump further remarked, "He's been very much of an ally. Some people would doubt that, but I think he's been a great ally, and his people respect him. His people respect him a lot."
