Doha: Qatar's Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani held separate calls with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and United Arab Emirates President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan on Saturday. The discussions centered on regional developments and efforts to reduce tensions and promote stability.
According to Anadolu Agency, a statement from Qatar's Amiri Diwan indicated that Sheikh Tamim and the Saudi crown prince reviewed ties and explored ways to enhance cooperation. They also exchanged views on significant regional and international developments, emphasizing political solutions to bolster security and stability in the region. The leaders underscored the importance of comprehensive and lasting resolutions that address the root causes of ongoing crises.
In a separate dialogue, Sheikh Tamim and the UAE president exchanged views on regional developments and diplomatic efforts. The Emirates News Agency (WAM) reported that both leaders highlighted the necessity of supporting diplomatic avenues to reinforce regional security and stability.
These talks occurred shortly after Pakistan Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir concluded a visit to Tehran. During his visit, he met with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, as part of Islamabad's mediation efforts between Washington and Tehran.
The discussions come at a critical regional juncture, with intensified diplomatic efforts aimed at reaching an agreement between the US and Iran. Reports suggest that Tehran has proposed a new formula for a potential deal with Washington. Earlier on Saturday, US President Donald Trump mentioned that an agreement with Iran had been 'largely negotiated,' though final details were still under discussion, with an announcement expected 'shortly.' Trump also stated that the Strait of Hormuz would be opened as part of the understandings under negotiation.
