Tehran: Iran is prepared to provide assurances to the international community regarding its nuclear ambitions, President Masoud Pezeshkian announced on Sunday. He emphasized that Iran is not pursuing nuclear weapons or seeking to destabilize the region, a statement reported by the state-run news agency IRNA.
According to Anadolu Agency, President Pezeshkian reiterated Iran's stance, stating that even before the passing of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran's late Leader, the nation declared its willingness to assure the world of its peaceful intentions. Pezeshkian accused Israel of being the primary instigator of regional instability, suggesting that Tel Aviv's actions are motivated by a vision of "Greater Israel."
Pezeshkian further stressed the importance of maintaining Iran's "honor and dignity," indicating that Iranian negotiators will not compromise on these principles. His comments come in the wake of statements by US President Donald Trump, who revealed on Saturday that a peace agreement with Iran to end ongoing conflicts had been "largely negotiated" and was awaiting finalization.
The region has witnessed heightened tensions following US and Israeli strikes against Iran in February, prompting Tehran to retaliate with targets in Israel and US allies in the Gulf, alongside the strategic closure of the Strait of Hormuz. A ceasefire brokered by Pakistan took effect on April 8 and was extended indefinitely by President Trump.
