Washington: US President Donald Trump announced on Saturday that he is contemplating replacing a planned series of concerts commemorating the 250th anniversary of the United States with a rally, following the withdrawal of several artists from the lineup.
According to Anadolu Agency, Trump expressed his thoughts on the potential change via his Truth Social platform, where he suggested hosting a rally and delivering a speech. In his post, Trump referred to himself as "the Number One Attraction anywhere in the World, the man who gets much larger audiences than Elvis in his prime and he does so without a guitar."
Trump further declared his intention to direct his representatives to assess the feasibility of organizing an "AMERICA IS BACK Rally" in Washington, D.C., on the same date and at the same venue as the initially planned concerts. He emphasized that only "Great Patriots" would be invited to the event, which he described as a "Wild and Beautiful Celebration of America."
The Freedom 250 concert series has faced significant setbacks, with approximately two-thirds of the confirmed performers withdrawing over concerns about the event's perceived political alignment. Initially promoted as a nonpartisan celebration, the event has been criticized as a MAGA celebration, influencing artists' decisions to bow out.
Since the lineup was unveiled on Wednesday, six acts, including Morris Day, Young MC, Martina McBride, Bret Michaels, Milli Vanilli, and The Commodores, have decided to step back from the concerts. Trump responded by stating his preference for being surrounded by "Happy People, Smart People, Successful People, and People that know how to WIN," dismissing the departing artists as "so-called 'Artists' that get paid far too much money, who aren't happy."
