Beijing: China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Friday vowed to enhance ties with Myanmar, which formed a new government under former military chief amid internal ethnic tensions. Wang made the remarks during a meeting with Myanmar Foreign Minister Tin Maung Swe in Beijing, according to a readout from China's Foreign Ministry.

According to Anadolu Agency, Wang expressed China's willingness to strengthen high-level exchanges with Myanmar, enhance political mutual trust, and deepen strategic cooperation. He emphasized promoting more practical results in building a China-Myanmar community with a shared future and assisting Myanmar in accelerating its development and revitalization. Wang noted the 76 years of diplomatic ties shared between China and its southern neighbor.

While reaffirming Beijing's stance of non-interference in the internal affairs of other nations, Wang called for joint efforts to combat cross-border crimes, including online gambling and telecom fraud, to maintain peace in the border areas between China and Myanmar. Tin Maung Swe was appointed as Myanmar's top diplomat following the election of former Burmese military junta chief Min Aung Hlaing as Myanmar's 11th president in April. Min has been ruling Myanmar directly since 2021 after his military ousted a civilian government.

Wang had visited Min soon after his election, amidst Myanmar's ongoing internal ethnic conflicts, which include tensions along the border with China.
