Tehran: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi held discussions with senior officials from Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Qatar, and France following Iran’s military response to what Tehran described as Israeli ceasefire violations in Lebanon.

According to Anadolu Agency, Araghchi engaged in phone conversations with Pakistan’s Army Chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir, shortly after Iran launched missile barrages toward northern Israel. This action was in retaliation to an Israeli airstrike on Beirut’s southern suburbs, which resulted in at least two deaths and 11 injuries.

The Iranian Islamic Students News Agency (ISNA) reported that Araghchi also contacted Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty, Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, and French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot. These discussions focused on regional developments and Iran’s stance on what it claims as repeated Israeli violations of the ceasefire in Lebanon.

Further, Iran’s Foreign Ministry announced that Araghchi communicated with Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan al Saud. Their conversation revolved around the Iranian military’s response to the breaches of the ceasefire agreement established on April 8 and the ongoing Israeli actions impacting Lebanon and the broader region.

This recent Iranian attack marks the first of its kind since the ceasefire came into effect. Pakistan, having played a mediating role between Tehran and Washington since the Iran-US conflict emerged on February 28, facilitated a temporary ceasefire on April 8. However, negotiations have since stalled due to disagreements over the ceasefire’s implementation and ongoing regional tensions.
