Ankara: Trkiye on Monday welcomed the peaceful completion of parliamentary elections held in Armenia. ‘We welcome that the parliamentary elections held in Armenia on 7 June 2026 were concluded in a peaceful and calm atmosphere,’ the Turkish Foreign Ministry said in a statement. The ministry expressed hope that Armenia will take ‘bolder steps’ toward peace and normalization in the region in the post-election period.

According to Anadolu Agency, Trkiye emphasized its commitment to contributing to regional stability and prosperity, asserting its ongoing efforts based on the common interests of the countries in the region. The peaceful nature of the elections marked a significant moment for Armenia, with about 1.47 million out of approximately 2.5 million Armenians casting their ballots. This led to a voter turnout of nearly 59% across 2,005 polling stations nationwide.

Preliminary results from Armenia’s Central Election Commission indicated that Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s Civil Contract party secured 49.82% of the vote. Its closest competitor, the Strong Armenia party led by billionaire Samvel Karapetyan, garnered 23.28%. The outcome of the election is seen as a crucial step in Armenia’s political landscape, potentially influencing the region’s path toward peace and cooperation.
