Brussels: European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen on Monday praised the results of Armenia’s parliamentary elections, highlighting the nation’s increasing alignment with the European Union. “We deeply value our partnership with a democratic Armenia that is drawing ever closer to Europe. Armenia can count on us,” von der Leyen expressed through US social media platform X.

According to Anadolu Agency, von der Leyen extended her congratulations to Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, who proclaimed victory in the parliamentary elections early Monday. This announcement came as vote counting continued throughout the country. She remarked on the enduring impact of the Velvet Revolution led by Pashinyan in 2018, noting its continued vibrancy.

Preliminary results released by the Central Electoral Commission indicated that Pashinyan’s Civil Contract party secured a majority with 49.81% of the votes. This data was compiled after the counting of ballots from all 2,005 polling stations, as reported by the state news agency Armenpress.
