Iranian Military Confirms Strikes on US Bases in Retaliation for American Attacks

Tehran: Iranian military headquarters announced early Wednesday that it had launched attacks on several US bases in the region in retaliation for American strikes on southern Iran.

According to Anadolu Agency, the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters issued a statement saying the attacks were a direct response to US strikes on areas in Jask, Sirik, and Qeshm in southern Iran. The statement warned of potential 'heavier and broader' attacks if the United States continues its aggression against Iran.

The announcement followed reports by Iranian media of explosions and projectile strikes in various parts of southern Hormozgan province. State TV later reported that the situation had become 'nearly calm.'

US Central Command (CENTCOM) responded by announcing the completion of what it termed 'self-defense' strikes against Iran. CENTCOM stated that US fighter jets targeted Iranian air defense systems and radar sites near the Strait of Hormuz. The strikes were in retaliation for the downing of a US Army Apache helicopter in a prior incident.
