Burgenstock: Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Sunday described the Iranian side as “very straight” and commended its leadership for managing the Middle East crisis with “a sense of dignity” in efforts to de-escalate tensions during ongoing talks in Switzerland. “They genuinely mean promoting peace in the region,” Sharif told reporters.

According to Anadolu Agency, Prime Minister Sharif’s remarks came as he participated in discussions involving United States and Iranian delegations. These talks follow the signing of a memorandum of understanding on Wednesday, aimed at ending months of conflict in the Middle East and reopening the crucial Strait of Hormuz. The negotiations in Burgenstock are being conducted with Pakistani mediation, alongside US and Iranian leadership.

Sharif also expressed his confidence in US President Donald Trump’s commitment to peace, citing Trump’s role during the conflict between Pakistan and India, when both nations were on the brink of a nuclear confrontation. The current talks are led by US Vice President JD Vance, with Iranian representation by Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.
