Beirut: The United Nations announced on Monday that its peacekeepers in Lebanon have not detected any trajectories or interceptions since Sunday, marking a significant “reduction of hostilities” after a period of intense escalation that began in March.

According to Anadolu Agency, UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric informed reporters that Sunday was the first day since the resumption of hostilities on March 2 that the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) neither detected any trajectories nor observed any interceptions. “UNIFIL says this lack of activities has continued through this morning. We welcome this reduction of hostilities and we very much hope that this trend continues for the sake of people on the ground,” Dujarric stated.

This development comes after a period of intense escalation on Friday and Saturday, despite a memorandum of understanding signed between the US and Iran. The memorandum was aimed at ending military operations on all fronts, including in Lebanon.
