Prague: Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babis has announced the introduction of new legislation that will restrict the use of mobile phones in schools starting in September 2027. This decision is aimed at refining the educational environment by standardizing the rules surrounding mobile phone usage among students of compulsory school age.

According to Anadolu Agency, Babis communicated through a video message on the US social media platform X, revealing that an agreement has been reached with Education Minister Robert Plagaon to draft and enforce a bill regulating mobile phone use in educational settings. The legislation will not only prohibit mobile phones in classrooms but will also enforce the ban during breaks between lessons.

The prime minister’s announcement follows earlier statements suggesting the government’s intention to regulate mobile phone use in classrooms as part of its educational policy reforms. Currently, individual schools determine their policies on mobile phone use during school hours, leading to varied practices across the country.

The forthcoming legislation aims to unify these practices with a nationwide mandate, set to be implemented at the beginning of the 2027-2028 academic year.
