Washington: US President Donald Trump announced on Saturday his decision to nominate Lance Schroyer as the new director of US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). The announcement was made through Trump's Truth Social platform, where he expressed confidence in Schroyer's capabilities to lead the agency.
According to Anadolu Agency, Trump praised Schroyer's extensive law enforcement experience, highlighting his 29 years of service in Oklahoma. Trump described Schroyer as a patriot with significant operational expertise and a proven track record in handling criminal detentions and deportations. The President emphasized Schroyer's ability to manage the challenges associated with detaining and deporting illegal alien criminals.
Trump also took the opportunity to boast about his administration's high daily arrest rate by ICE and US Customs and Border Protection (CBP), claiming it surpasses any previous administration. He urged the Senate to expedite Schroyer's confirmation, underscoring the importance of filling the leadership gap at ICE.
The need for a new director arose following the resignation of former ICE Director Todd Lyons at the end of May. Since Lyons' departure, David Venturella, a former executive from a private prison company, has been serving as the acting director of the agency.
