US Pledges Continued Military Action if Iran Threatens Hormuz Shipping: Envoy to UN

Ankara: The US will continue to target Iran's military infrastructure if Tehran threatens international shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, US Ambassador to the UN Mike Waltz said in an interview with Fox News on Sunday.

According to Anadolu Agency, Waltz emphasized that the US is prepared to respond if Iran continues to attack international shipping or US bases. He stated that President Donald Trump will not hesitate to take military action to prevent Iran from illegally controlling the strategic waterway.

Waltz noted that while technical discussions between Washington and Tehran are ongoing, President Trump remains open to diplomatic solutions. Nevertheless, Waltz warned that the president's patience is limited, and all options remain on the table to ensure Iran does not develop nuclear capabilities.

The US military's Central Command reported conducting strikes against multiple targets in Iran following Tehran's attack on a commercial ship near the Strait of Hormuz. In retaliation, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps launched missile and drone strikes on US military sites in Kuwait and Bahrain.

Earlier, on June 18, the US and Iran signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at achieving lasting peace, with talks commencing on June 21 to implement its terms and end ongoing hostilities.
