Iranian Foreign Minister Visits Baghdad for Strategic Talks

Ankara: Iran's foreign minister on Sunday embarked on an official visit to Baghdad to engage in discussions with senior Iraqi officials. The visit aims to address a range of topics, including bilateral relations and pressing regional and global issues.

According to Anadolu Agency, Abbas Araghchi, writing on the Dubai-based social media platform Telegram, indicated that the trip would involve significant exchanges with Iraqi counterparts. One of the key topics on the agenda is coordinating with Iraqi authorities to organize a funeral ceremony for the martyred leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ali Khamenei, at the revered holy shrines. Khamenei was killed on February 28 during a conflict initiated by the US and Israel against Iran.

This visit follows a recently established framework deal that has temporarily halted the ongoing war between the US and Iran. The agreement has set in motion 60 days of negotiations aimed at achieving a more comprehensive settlement. Despite the deal, intermittent hostilities have persisted, with recent US attacks on southern Iran followed by retaliatory Iranian strikes on US positions in Gulf states.
