Iran Calls for Release of $6 Billion in Qatari Funds Under US Agreement

Ankara: Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian announced that $6 billion of Iran's funds currently held in Qatar should be released and returned to Iran under an agreement with the United States. Pezeshkian's statement came during a meeting with Grand Ayatollah Shobeiri Zanjani.

According to Anadolu Agency, Pezeshkian specified that this amount is part of a larger total of $12 billion of Iran's funds in Qatar. He emphasized that necessary steps are being taken to ensure the return of the remaining funds.

Pezeshkian described the recently signed memorandum of understanding with the United States as a significant achievement for the Iranian people. He noted that the agreement includes the lifting of oil and petrochemical sanctions.

The Iranian president reiterated Iran's position regarding its nuclear activities, citing the late Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei's statement that Iran does not intend to develop nuclear weapons. Pezeshkian assured the international community that Iran's nuclear activities are aligned with the country's needs and declared policies.

On June 18, Iran and the United States reached a memorandum of understanding addressing issues such as ending hostilities, lifting the US naval blockade on Iranian ports, and reopening the Strait of Hormuz for global energy supplies.
