Tehran: An adviser to Iran's Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei warned Wednesday that US President Donald Trump's declaration ending a memorandum of understanding between Tehran and Washington "pushes the region toward the flames."

According to Anadolu Agency, Trump announced earlier on Wednesday that the memorandum of understanding signed with Iran to end the conflict was "over." This memorandum had originally been agreed upon to resolve the military conflict that began after US and Israeli attacks on Tehran in February.

Ali Akbar Velayati, in the first Iranian reaction to Trump's comments, stated that the responsibility for this latest escalation lies with the US President. He described Trump as "the thieving politician disgraced by the Epstein scandal" and criticized the verbal admission of canceling the memorandum, which he claimed had been repeatedly violated in practice.

Velayati further emphasized that Iran had "previously warned that the region is not a venue for the political gambling of small states" and highlighted that Iran has consistently demonstrated that any acts of adventurism by other states will receive an immediate response.

The memorandum of understanding was initially signed on June 17, with the aim of ending the military conflict between Iran and the US. However, Trump's recent decision to cancel it has raised concerns about potential further instability in the region.
