Ankara: Romania has built a strong partnership with Trkiye in safeguarding security in the Black Sea, Romanian Foreign Minister Oana Toiu said, highlighting joint efforts with Bulgaria and Ukraine to maintain regional stability. Speaking to Anadolu on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Ankara, Toiu said returning to Trkiye for a NATO summit 20 years after Romania joined the alliance carried symbolic significance.
According to Anadolu Agency, Toiu emphasized that the meeting is crucial as NATO is needed more than ever for deterrence and collective defense. She noted that interest in supporting the defense industry has grown, with Romania aiming to become a larger supplier within NATO, while also creating jobs and promoting economic growth. Toiu highlighted Romania's close cooperation with Trkiye on Black Sea security, stating the partnership is strong and focused on protection.
Toiu also praised Trkiye's diplomatic efforts in the Middle East, mentioning the role of Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan in facilitating discussions in the region. She expressed confidence in Romania's partnership with Trkiye regarding Black Sea security. The collaborative efforts by Romania, Bulgaria, Trkiye, and Ukraine have ensured the flow of grain in recent years.
Additionally, Toiu acknowledged the participation of Turkish companies in industrial infrastructure investment during the 2025 NATO Industry Forum held in Romania. She further mentioned her ongoing discussions with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan about Trkiye's European perspective, envisioning a future focused on its European path.
