Death Toll from Venezuela Earthquakes Rises to 4,734

Ankara: The death toll from last month's back-to-back earthquakes in Venezuela has climbed to 4,734, National Assembly President Jorge Rodriguez announced on Tuesday. The devastating quakes have also left a significant number of people injured and displaced, creating a humanitarian crisis in the region.

According to Anadolu Agency, Rodriguez reported that a total of 16,740 individuals have been injured due to the earthquakes. Authorities are actively working to address the needs of the affected population, having assisted 128,324 families so far. Efforts include establishing 107 temporary camps that currently house 20,903 people, while 17,907 individuals remain without permanent housing solutions.

The twin earthquakes, registering magnitudes of 7.2 and 7.5, struck Venezuela on June 24, causing widespread destruction. Rodriguez highlighted that 856 buildings were damaged during the seismic events, with 190 of these structures collapsing entirely. The government and aid agencies continue to work on providing relief and recovery to those impacted by this natural disaster.
