Bishkek: Kyrgyzstan has imposed a temporary ban on the export of oil and petroleum products via road and rail to safeguard domestic fuel supplies and bolster the nation's energy security.

According to Anadolu Agency, the Cabinet of Ministers issued a resolution on Monday detailing that the restrictions will remain until the domestic market is adequately supplied or a unified oil and petroleum products market is established within the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU). The measure specifically targets crude oil and petroleum products but excludes naphtha, fuel oil, and heating fuel exported for processing abroad, as long as the refined products are subsequently reimported into Kyrgyzstan.

The ban exempts fuel contained in the standard tanks of vehicles departing from Kyrgyzstan. The State Customs Service and the State Border Service have been tasked with preventing the illegal export of oil and petroleum products to ensure compliance with the new regulations.
