Algiers: At least 11 people were killed and 19 others injured in a fire at a child welfare institution near the Algerian capital, reported the country's Civil Protection authority. According to Anadolu Agency, firefighters are actively working to extinguish the blaze at the child care facility located in the Mohammadia district, east of Algiers. The preliminary death toll has reached 11, as confirmed by the Civil Protection authority's statement. The incident also left 19 individuals injured. Among them, 10 suffered burns of varying severity, two experienced breathing difficulties due to smoke inhalation, and seven were treated for shock. The authority also confirmed that five people with disabilities were evacuated from the facility and relocated to a safe area. The cause of the fire remains unknown at this time.
