Caracas: US President Donald Trump announced that repairs are currently being carried out at the Reflecting Pool in Washington, DC, attributing the damage to acts of "vandals."

According to Anadolu Agency, Trump took to Truth Social to express his concerns, stating, "The Reflecting Pool, so badly damaged by Deranged Vandals, has been emptied as the massive slash gets repaired." He further explained that the repairs had been postponed until after the July 4th holiday weekend to avoid disruption.

Trump questioned the motives behind the vandalism, asking, "What kind of animals would do such a thing?" He mentioned that efforts are being made to find a vandal-proof material for the pool, though he lamented that such measures should not have been necessary. The president emphasized his desire for those responsible to face the "maximum" penalties for their actions.

The Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, which underwent a renovation costing approximately $16 million, has encountered multiple issues, including algae buildup and peeling paint. Despite these ongoing problems, Trump insists that vandalism was the cause of the recent damage, alleging that a long slit had been cut into the pool's lining. However, he has not provided any evidence to support this claim. Previously, Trump had asserted that the pool's lining was so durable it could not be cut.
