US Service Member Killed During Disposal of Iranian Drone in Iraq, CENTCOM Reports

Nairobi: A US service member was killed and another was injured in northern Iraq on Saturday while disposing of unexploded ordnance from a downed Iranian attack drone, US Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed on Sunday.

According to Anadolu Agency, CENTCOM announced on the US social media platform X that the service member lost their life in action during a controlled detonation of the ordnance from the Iranian one-way attack drone. Another service member involved in the operation sustained a minor injury and is currently undergoing medical treatment.

Additionally, CENTCOM provided updates on the recent Iranian ballistic missile and drone attacks in Jordan, which occurred on Friday. These attacks resulted in the deaths of two US service members, with a third still missing. Following an extensive search, US military personnel discovered unidentified remains at the site earlier today. An examination process is underway to confirm the identity of the remains.

CENTCOM emphasized that further details, including the identities of the deceased and missing service members, are being withheld to respect the privacy of their families during the notification process.
