Nairobi: Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced on Sunday that two ships were involved in an 'accident' as they attempted to transit the Strait of Hormuz via what was described as an 'unsafe route,' allegedly under the support of the United States. Additionally, two other vessels were reportedly deterred from proceeding on their journey.

According to Anadolu Agency, the IRGC Navy issued a statement through the semi-official Fars News Agency, indicating that the vessels "intended to disrupt and exit the Strait of Hormuz via an unsafe route with US support." However, the statement did not elaborate on the specifics of the accident encountered by the ships.

The IRGC emphasized its control over the Strait of Hormuz, asserting that the "only safe passage" is through the designated shipping lane announced by Iranian authorities. This development unfolds amidst escalating tensions in the region, marked by recent exchanges of fire between the United States and Iran.

These tensions have persisted despite a Pakistan-brokered memorandum of understanding signed in June, aimed at ceasing hostilities and achieving a lasting peace agreement between the two nations.
