Iran Condemns US Strikes on Darkhovin Nuclear Power Plant

Nairobi: Iran's Atomic Energy Organization announced on Sunday that recent US strikes targeted the Darkhovin nuclear power plant, which is currently under construction in the southwest region of the country. The organization emphasized the violation of international law, stating, "An attack on a peaceful nuclear facility under international safeguards is a clear violation of international law," via the US social media platform X. However, specific details regarding potential damage from the attack were not disclosed.

According to Anadolu Agency, the statement from Iran's Atomic Energy Organization comes at a time of heightened tensions in the region. The US has launched attacks on Iranian targets, prompting retaliatory strikes from Tehran on facilities and bases that it claims are used by the US military in several regional countries. Despite ongoing exchanges of fire between Washington and Tehran, a Pakistan-brokered memorandum of understanding was signed in June, aiming to end hostilities and reach a lasting peace agreement.
