Sanaa: France's foreign minister on Monday accused Iranian security services of detaining two French Embassy staffers in Tehran, calling the incident an "extremely serious act of intimidation."

According to Anadolu Agency, Jean-Noel Barrot stated on the US social media platform X that on Sunday evening, two agents of the French Embassy in Iran were targeted by Iranian security services. This act, he claimed, violated the diplomatic immunities to which the staff are entitled. Barrot reported that the embassy staff members were "detained without reason for several hours" and "questioned," with one of them enduring physical assault.

Barrot further explained that the two agents were able to return to the embassy safely and are now awaiting their return to France. The officials were engaged in French programs aimed at supporting Iranian civil society, specifically focusing on Iranian artists and scientists.

Barrot communicated to Iran's foreign minister that this serious violation of the agents' integrity would have consequences. As of now, there has been no response from Iranian authorities regarding the French allegations.
