Syria Seizes 226 RPG-Type Grenades in Vehicle Bound for Lebanon

Ankara: Syrian customs authorities seized 226 RGC-type grenades on Tuesday that were hidden in a vehicle heading to Lebanon, according to an official statement. The discovery was made at the Jdeidet Yabous border crossing, where officers found the grenades concealed in secret compartments inside the vehicle.

According to Anadolu Agency, this seizure is part of Syria's ongoing efforts to tighten security and extend state control following the ouster of Bashar al-Assad in late 2024. The authorities have been focusing on stabilizing the country and initiating reconstruction efforts after Assad's 24-year rule.

Earlier this week, Syrian authorities also thwarted an attempt to smuggle a large shipment of advanced weapons across the country's border with Iraq. This shipment was reportedly destined for the Lebanese group Hezbollah, although the group dismissed the claims as 'baseless allegations.'

These actions underscore the new Syrian leadership's commitment to addressing security challenges and preventing illegal arms transfers that could destabilize the region.
