Ankara: Jordan's military announced on Tuesday that its air defenses successfully intercepted three Iranian missiles in a recent attack directed at the kingdom. The interception took place in the afternoon and reportedly resulted in no casualties or material damage.

According to Anadolu Agency, the official Petra news agency, citing a military source, confirmed the successful interception of the missiles. The source emphasized the absence of any casualties or material damage as a result of the interception.

Earlier in the day, the Jordanian military reported the interception and neutralization of five drones that were launched from Iran overnight and during the morning. These incidents also did not result in any casualties or damage, highlighting the effectiveness of Jordan's air defense systems.

The latest missile interceptions follow claims by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps that they targeted a complex housing US forces in Jordan's Al-Rukban area with ballistic missiles. However, Jordanian authorities have not confirmed this claim.

The missile attack is part of a broader escalation of hostilities between the US and Iran. The US has increased its military actions against Iran since last week, prompting retaliatory strikes from Iran targeting facilities and bases it alleges are used by the US military across several regional countries.

This exchange of fire occurs despite a Pakistan-brokered memorandum of understanding signed in June between the US and Iran aimed at ending hostilities and establishing a lasting peace agreement.
